Amelia A. (Miller) McGinnis, 91, of Kearney, Mo., passed away on March 16, 2007, at the Cameron Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be held 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, 6600 N. Antioch, Gladstone. Mrs. McGinnis will lie in state from 4-7 p.m. Monday, March 19, at the Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at M-291 Hwy., Liberty. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Clay County Archives and Historical Library, 210 E. Franklin, Liberty, MO 64068, or to the Music Department at Liberty United Methodist Church, 1001 Sunset, Liberty, MO 64068. Amelia was born July 15, 1915, in rural Clay County, Mo., and lived in the Chandler community of Kearney for the past 66 years. She graduated from Westport High School and the Kansas City Teachers' College (now UMKC). She was a school teacher for many years in the Walnut Grove and rural Clay County area and later taught in the Liberty School District for 20 years. Amelia was a member of Chandler Baptist Church, the Walnut Grove Community Club, the Fortnightly Study Club, and the Alexander Doniphan Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Clay County Archives and Historical Library. Amelia was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, W. Wallace McGinnis, and her sister, Marion M. Stepp. Survivors include a son and daughter-inlaw, Wally and Sandra McGinnis, Chillicothe, Mo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Joe Dake, Gladstone, Mo.; five grandchildren, Cassandra Rashman, Joann Lacy, Carrie Cooper, Julie Dake Abel, and Jarrod McGinnis, and four great grandchildren.
