BETTY CUTHBERTSON SUMPTER IRWIN Betty Cuthbertson Sumpter Irwin, fondly known to many as "Aunt Betty," died at the age of 80, in Liberty, MO, on Wednesday, November 1, 2000. She was a lifelong resident and teacher in Liberty Public Schools. A celebration of her life takes place at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 4, at Second Baptist Church, Liberty; burial in New Hope Cemetery, Liberty follows the celebration. Friends may call 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lottie Moon Foreign Missions Offering, c/o Second Baptist Church, 309 E. Franklin St., Liberty, MO 64068, or to any other charity of choice. Betty was born April 1, 1920, in Liberty, MO, to Dr. William and Nancy Cuthbertson. She was a graduate of William Jewell College and University of Missouri- Kansas City. She was an active, long time member of Second Baptist Church and a member of PEO, DAR, Fortnightly, Harmony Homemakers Extension Club, Beta Sigma/Zeta Tau Alpha, and the Lightburn Society at William Jewell College. She spent many hours playing bridge, her favorite pastime. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, John Allen Sumpter in 1979. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Don Hutchinson, and grandchildren, Allen and Rachel, all of Benicia, CA. (Arrangements: Church-Archer- Pasley Funeral Home, Liberty, MO)
