
Carl Cecil Hicks, 94, died on
Feb. 17, 2005, at
Ashton
Court Care Center, in Liberty. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60
years, Jean (Pittman); son, Carl Leon Hicks, of Ozarks, MO; daughter, Elaine,
and husband, John K. Lonborg, of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Sherry Jo Shank, and
Joanna Hicks, of Ozark, MO, and Kris Lonborg, Kari Haywood, and Karla Boles, of
Dallas, TX; and six great-grandchildren. Carl retired from Armco Steel in 1972.
During the 1950's and 60's, he worked as manager of W.J. Small Alphafa Mill and
Dessert Gold Alphafa Mill. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, caring for his lawn,
and working on his cars and lawn equipment. He enjoyed sharing vegetables from
his garden with neighbors, he sometimes helped them with their lawns and homes.
He was inventive, often using techniques that later proved to be very useful. In
April 2001, he was featured in a
Kansas City Star article describing a "shocker"
that he invented and used for himself. He attributed it to saving his life many
times. He loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed watching them play.
He grew up fifth of six children in
Neodesha
KS. He entertained family and friends with stories of his youth, living on a
farm, milking cows, swimming in the river and helping his mother as one of the
youngest children. Visitation will be at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home,
10-11 a.m., on Monday. Service will be at Church-Archer-Pasley
Funeral Home, at
11 a.m., Monday,
