Lawrence A. "Larry" Nickles Jr.

     WILLMAR -- Lawrence Arthur "Larry" Nickles Jr., 64, of Willmar, died Wednesday at Methodist Hospital in Rochester.
     His memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Willmar with the Rev. Phil Lutz and the Rev. Gary Esbolt officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
     He was born Jan. 4, 1936, in Louisiana, Mo., to Lawrence A. and Margaret M. (Mace) Nickles. He was a 1953 graduate of Louisiana High School, completed his undergraduate work in psychology at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., and at William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo. In 1958 he married Carol Brown in Liberty. He served in the U.S. Navy three years active duty based in San Francisco, Calif. In 1970 he received his masters degree in clinical psychology from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo. They moved to Willmar in 1971 where he was employed as a clinical psychologist by Willmar Regional Treatment Center, and taught psychology over 20 years at Willmar Community College. He was a member of the U.S. Navy Reserves over 32 years, retiring as captain in 1989. He was a recipient of the Eagle Scout Award, an active member of his church, played trumpet in the church orchestra, and was involved with its scouting program.
     He is survived by his wife; sons Lawrence III (and Kelly) Nickles of Holt, Mo., Michael Nickles of Palm Harbor, Fla., Brad (and Kirsten) Nickles of Fish Creek, Wis., Eric Nickles of Minneapolis, Richard (and Jill) Nickles of Duluth; five grandchildren; sister Norma Graham of Knoxville, Tenn.; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents.
